A new reference joins the Royal Oak “Jumbo” model line, this time wrapped in a combination of titanium and glass composite and embellished with a gradient burgundy dial.
In the world of mechanical watches, rich in models, variations and types, there is a category of so-called icons. It’s not easy to earn this name, because there are many components of being an iconic watch, from its long history, through its collector value, to its timeless, perfect design. Without a doubt, the Royal Oak model designed by Gerald Genta is considered an icon and, especially in the flat “Jumbo” version, it gives sleepless nights to collectors, not only to those loyal to the Audemars Piguet Replica brand. Each subsequent “Jumbo” reference sells out quickly, and the waiting lists for the watch are impressively long. And it will probably be no different with the newest “Jumbo” in the AP family, wrapped in a new set of materials and dial color.
Titanium and Bulk Metallic Glass
The watch case is made of a combination of light hypoallergenic titanium and a composite called Bulk Metallic Glass (BMG). AP first used it in its special “Only Watch 2021” edition, and now it’s joining the regular collection. The composite, containing a large admixture of palladium, is created in the process of rapid cooling of the glass mass in the mold and then finishing it in the desired way. It is characterized by resistance, scratch resistance and high gloss after proper polishing. In the new RO, the bezel, caseback and elements connecting the bracelet links are made of BMG. When combined with titanium, they create a contrasting composition of darker and lighter shades of silver. The case measures 39 mm in diameter, is 8.1 mm thick and has a WR of 50 m. It is combined with the bracelet mentioned above and a pair of sapphire glasses.
Caliber 7121
Underneath the case back is the in-house automatic caliber 7121. AP presented it a year ago, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the collection, as a replacement for the original caliber 2121. The new mechanism has a 55-hour power reserve and a balance clocked at 4 Hz (mounted under a solid gold bridge). , quick date correction and measures only 3.2 mm thick. It was finished, among others: Geneva stripes, polished edges and a central rotor made of 22ct gold – skeletonized, with a cut-out AP logo.
Under the front glass of the case, set in the characteristic octagonal bezel, AP mounted a burgundy, gradient dial with rose gold applications and hands. The date window – a controversial issue in almost every new watch – was solved by AP discreetly, in the form of a window cut out in the dial at 3 and a disc in the dial color.
Availability and price
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra Thin in titanium and BMG will be part of the regular collection. Unfortunately, AP does not provide the price of one piece, so you will have to ask about it in one of the brand’s boutiques.
