Coinciding with the release in theaters of the new highly anticipated film in the Aquaman saga, entitled “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”, IWC Replica presented two extraordinary novelties from the Aquatimer line inspired by the cinematic universe: these are timepieces with a futuristic design and high-tech, with an oversized 49 mm case in Ceratanium, a revolutionary material designed and patented by the brand’s engineers.
Ceratanium combines the best properties of titanium and ceramic, being at the same time light and resistant to scratches and impacts, as well as hypoallergenic. The two Aquatimer creations amaze with their black dial with a three-dimensional effect, within which the digital display of the date and month stands out via two small discs that rotate inside windows located at 3 and 9 o’clock.
In addition to the perpetual calendar complication, the timepieces also integrate the practical chronograph function that can be operated via brush-polished pushers positioned at 2 and 4 o’clock, as well as an internal rotating bezel graduated to precisely calculate dive times.
The first model (Ref. IW379405) is characterized by red Super-LumiNova details which make the dial, hands and internal bezel particularly readable in the dark or underwater. The second one (Ref. IW379406) features the same luminous elements in cobalt blue. The bright colors are a clear homage to the hi-tech watches which, in the film, emit fluorescent glows when worn by the characters played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Randall Park.
Under the case beats the IWC caliber 89802, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely assembled by hand in the Schaffhausen manufacture. It is a refined chronograph which, thanks to a double winding barrel, guarantees a comfortable power reserve of 68 hours. The oscillating weight visible on the back has been subjected to a special galvanic process of black nickel plating. Through the transparent sapphire caseback it is also possible to admire the rich level of finishing of the perpetual calendar complication.
In keeping with the best IWC tradition, these timepieces are designed to accompany enthusiasts on their underwater adventures in complete safety. In addition to resistance up to 30 bar, equal to 300 metres, the revolutionary SafeDive system stands out: the external rotating bezel rotates only anti-clockwise, thus preventing accidental changes to the dive time which could jeopardize decompression protocols.
